Save

Whenever you are typing out stuff on your computer, keep saving your work at very frequent intervals. Otherwise, when an unexpected shutdown occurs, you will lose all your work.

I am ashamed to admit that, me, a qualified computer professional (with a Master's degree, no less, to boot) just now did not follow that crucial basic axiom of using a computer. And hence lost the blog post that should have appeared in this space. Learn from my example. Save, save, save!

Just that one moment when you took your computer for granted! :-) :-) he he .. try to enjoy writing it all over again.

I too learnt that lesson very early in my s/w life, when once I had to suffer really hard by losing imp work related files to these crazy power outages. And now its a given, chanting "Press cntl S" like a religious mantra all the time while I am on the computer.

hmm. inspite of being an cse student and a software engineer, i lose some of my blog posts because i usually type them on the site. but when i do it offline, i am a safe user and my comp. rarely breaks down. :) how do you save blog posts if you type online? only google can tell. does blogger do an auto-save like gmail? wordpress doesn't do it. AJAX please...

Oooops.. does that mean we just missed the pleasure of reading one of your posts? :--(( Generally the drive to 'rewrite' the whole post is not much, once you have lost it, am I right?

Like Floridora's option. Cheers! :--) Though I doubt it would work for Blogger.

Archana - I know - sheesh! I am much, much more careful at work! All those umpteen times of losing hardwork in undergrad has taught me that!

Spark - I generally type them on wordpad/notepad and then put them up. My stupid laptop apparently overheated and poof, without any warning the whole computer shutdown...grrrr! Hmm, online just keep pressing "save draft" - that's cumbersome though. A gmail approach would be cool...

Floridora - I really think I shd start considering buying a Mac.

Saranya - You are so right - rewriting a post is sooooooo not interesting :-(!

Gingko - ah, I should have known at least one person would rejoice. Finally a post which did not require you to scroll through before commenting ;-P!

I also do that all the time, type in notepad and then paste it. But I save the document even before typing anything!

Why dont u start off with the last day of the travel and unravel it backwards? (If u were planning on writing a travellogue!!). By the time u have to write about the "lost" episode, it wont be so boring(for u that is ;)

thatz why always type your blog in word - it gets automatically saved and copy paste here.. the other reason is i am not as good as you and others in blog spot with vocabalary and english . need the assistant and who could be better one than word.
