Pumpkin

It's that time of the year again - Halloween :-)! Again, we have a pumpkin-carving contest at my company. Again, I am ultra-tired today - you will understand why when I tell you that my day started at morning 1.00am PST today (early morning flight and all - which, by the way, reminds me - be prepared to be bugged by posts about Chicago soon :-P) and has still not ended at 10.20pm PST :-(.

However, keeping up with my self-awarded Most Enthusiastic Pumpkin Carver of the Year title, I decided to try my hand at it again and bought a pumpkin on the way home. So far, so good! Then came home and rummaged through the shelf where I was pretty sure I had put the carving book and carving tools last year. And rummaged, and rummaged. Zip, zilch, nada - no tools or book :-(! Oh no.

Fifteen more minutes of hunting various locations finally yielded the tools. Yaaay :-D! One down, one to go. Then I proceeded to turn my house upside down in my effort to locate the book. But no luck :-(! I officially gave up thirty minutes later. The book had apparently vaporized on its own (though I have sickening confidence that within a week that book will laugh at my face when I am looking for something else).

Now what? I was almost ready togive up and just go to bed when my mom came online. Immediately, I started whining about my idiotic missing carving-pattern book. She then told me that I should draw my own stencil instead and use it. Hehehehehehe - my drawing skills are so excellent that they haven't seen any recognition since third grade!

Anyways, I finally got persuaded and came up with my own ultra simple stencil involving mostly straight lines.

Can you guess what my pumpkin is carved as?

Does this help?
Again, pumpkin-carving is fun :-D! And writing a post about it is fun too :-D!

In case you are still wondering, answer for the guess is here - my pumpkin guy's ears are pulled all the way back - so you can't see it :-P!

I thought u would hv gone to sleep as soon as u got home...and instead u carved Fido Dido ! Its so cute !!

It reminds me of the the cards from school...we always had fido featured in them...remember ? I guess all that sketching was of some use afterall !

I've heard that to be elegant a solution must be ingenious and simple. Your solution to the problem of the lost book is certainly elegant. Fido Dido should feel honored.

As Shilpa saus you _do_ have some energy! To sit and rummage the shelves to search for the tools and book, and then sit and carve, jeez, amazing!

Fido Dido looks cool! Good luck with the competition. Let us know how it went. :--))

When 200 million Africans are malnourished, farmers committing suicide everyday in the deccan plateau.

I am not sure how you have to heart to waste food on such a silly reason, Do you know why you did it? was there even a reason? evil spirits maybe? Vagaries of a feeble mind, Madamossaile, desperately trying to justify a holiday that is without meaning or purpose.

commendable job, Archana. Seriously, after that hectic day, you had the festive spirit to go out there, buy a pumpkin and carve out the Fido... bet you had fun doing it.. it really looks cool when lit up.. why don't you try Jughead next time!

You made it again this Halloween! I was thinking I would do some pumpkin carving too this year, but I slept like a log in the evening (had two sleepless nights) and completely dropped the idea when I woke up. Your enthusiasm is amazing!

And its wonderful, the Fido Dido! You rock!

And Happy Halloween by the way.

Shilpa - :-)! Yeah, even I was amazed at myself! Fido Dido is my ultimate favorite doodle-able character - I think I have put him on practically every paper greeting card I have given :-)! Of course, along with eekikiki, Fido took the honors during those letter writing days!

Floridora - thank you so much :-)!

Ginkgo - LOL :-D! No, thankfully not!

Inder - Correct :-)!

Saranya - Somehow, that day, I did :-)! Oh, I did not win any prize at the competition :-( - there were other pumpkins with way more sophiticated designs! But I did really enjoy carving the pumpkin - so I am still happy :-)!

Prabhu - Oh, you did not know Fido?? Aporam how did you refer to that character? Actually, that's true - if it was work-related, I doubt I would have done it :-P!

Madsies - Hey! Long time, no see! How have you been? Mez doing all good :-))! Thank you!

Spark - I carved a pumpkin last year too - and see, I had helpfully linked to that post in the very first sentence of this post itself :-P! I think I love adopting ath which sounds like fun to do :-)!

Pratap - why indeed? I just see it as a celebration of life :-D. And a holiday by its very definition neither needs a meaning nor a purpose. Monsieur, in case you are trying to make me feel guilty, nopes, it is not working - I certainly do not feel so :-P!

Ravi - Thank you :-D! Jughead? Hmm, that sounds like a nice idea - maybe shd try it next year :-)!

Archana - thank you :-D! I think once you do it once, you get hooked on and keep doing it :-D!

iamvisheshur - thank you :-D! Sprite?? Isn't Fido the mascot for 7-up?

Jeseem - LOL :-D! Thank you :-)! Oh, please do and post pictures!

Anon - thank you :-D!

I see that celebration of life inspired to your to destroy edible food substances and you seem to believe that it is a just cause. Do not cry foul on the day when violent men justify their brutality for the sake of their celebration, Madamossaile.

Abundance shoud not inspire wastage and celebration need not end in destruction, Madamossaile.

Actually, I though previous year's cat was much better than this year's fido.

Archana said...

Pratap - when that happens, I hope I have enough wisdom to know the difference! Cat was from a professional stencil - fido was my own stencil - I wasn't lying when I said my drawing skills suck :-))! However, I like them both :-D!

Archana said...

iamvisheshur - Not to worry :-)!

Pratap - Cooool alva :-D! If and when we meet, please do make alva :-) - if it is good, I *might* think of making alva instead of carving a pumpkin next year :-P!

amitl - LOL - thank you :-D!
