Bye, adieu, ciao, adios, tata ...SBC DSL!

I discontinued my SBC-yahoo DSL service without any regret whatsoever after the following conversation took place between me and one of their customer service representatives.

Me: (after going through many, many automated options and finally reaching a human) Hello. I currently have the SBC-Yahoo DSL service.

Customer Service Representative (CSR): Uh-huh.

Me: I would like to disconnect the service.

CSR: Hmm, okay. (After a pause) Why do you want to disconnect the service?

Me: Because it is tooo darn slow.

CSR: (big pause)

Me: (thinking and dreaming) Ha, now she is going to offer for somebody to come and take a look at my connection. All these stupid companies will take action only when you threaten to disconnect service. About high time too. Maybe if they solve the problem, I might reconsider my decision. These people and their ...

CSR: Okay.

Me: (jerked back from my reverie) What!?!

CSR: (probably thrilled about the good riddance of another pestering customer) I said 'okay'.

Me: (hmph) Thank you.

Oh well, finally my hate-relationship with the SBC DSL service has come to an end. If not ath, that is good news for my blood pressure (which used to shoot up to abnormal levels whenever I surfed the net with the horrible DSL connection). While I am exploring other options, I am back to dial-up. Yes, you read right - dial-up. After a reeeaaaalllllly long time, yesterday I had the joy (!?!) of hearing the trrring-ding-ding sound from a modem speaker. First pathetic DSL, now dial-up. While the rest of the world is moving forward, looks like I am progressing backwards to the Stone Age. Wonder what's next? Pigeons, maybe :-|?

Try comcast... or upgrade to higher speed DSL, the 1.5-3.0 or something... that is a little faster

I cant agree more. I live in the midwest and their service was lousy here too. Cable is a lot better.

SBC changed their customer-service motto to "Simply Boycott Customers".

Heh. You are not alone.

Saranya, DSL used to work super-fine at my old house. But it sucked Big Time at my new place :-(!! That's why I dreamt that SBC would be interested in finding out why ...

Rahul, that will be my next option I guess. I just heard from another source yesterday that its not just SBC which sucks at customer service...God save us all!

Thanu, comcast will prob be next choice...I can't believe that there can be so much difference in speed between the DSL at my old apt (which rocked) and the DSL at my new place (don't even ask).

Jason, my comrade-in-arms! I think after its merger with ATT (which previously used to hold "worst possible service" title from me), SBC will win any "most terrible and horrible customer service" competition hands down.

Swami - I think SBC maintains equality all over the USA in that respect ;-)!

Prasanna, hmm, you know what, I *think* you have hit upon the correct acronym expansion!!!

Suryakannan, thank you :-)! Supra-human??

Kuttichuvaru, thank you :-)!

Hey did the CSR sound like a desi :-)
Arent most calls routed to India ?

Maybe u shd talk to ur neighbors and ask them abt other options too....

No no - the CSR sounded like a non-native English speaker but not desi (or Asian). Exploring options is what I am doing now. No other choice :-(!
