If you come today...

Shilpa had sent me the link to the audio of a wonderful kannada movie song when I was back in grad school. It was a super-duper hit with anyone who heard it. S and I have been trying to locate the video (after all, with a song so cool, could the video be far behind?) for the song since then.

Yesterday, my friend J sent me this link, adding a note "old memories". It was the video of the song!!! I am proud to present it here:

Please to turn up the speaker volume and do follow the lyrics closely too :-D.

p.s. Dr. Rajkumar fans, please note: I am just kidding.

I think the wall-posters for this movie would have been "Kannada cinemalooo english paadaa, ellaru banni nodu --tik tik tik...."

An equally funny one :

Anon :-D - my favorite part is the "daorrrlling..."...lol!

Shilpa - yeah, yeah! The video totally made my day :-D!

Floridora - I don't know who Spike Jones is (I did a google search and confirmed I don't know him :-|) - the lead in this song used to be a very popular movie star in the Kannada language. This song is one of his more "brilliant" performances, I guess ;-)!

Archana - ah-ha - I know, the tune IS very catchy. For the first few days after listening to this song, _quite_a_few_ of us in Davis used to go "tick-tick-tick" constantly :-D!

Prabhu - :-D - we discussed that possibility also - about how proud the director must have been to have an all-English song & dance number ;-)! I got the TR video as a forward - its too hilarious - ROFL!

For a minute I thought you guys actually enjoyed some Telugu song. :--)

Archana said...

Saranya, you really thought that after seeing the song??? Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no! I think I shd have put a big "post is sarcastic" disclaimer at the top!

Prabhu said...

Archana,
you mean all of you didnt enjoy the song and all of this was sarcasm?

I liked the song and video so much that I have saved this song as my cell fone ringtone.

Hey it seems there is a community on Orkut dedicated to this song...no points for guessing the name - ' tick tick tick tick'
LOL

Archana said...

Prabhu - what I meant was I was sarcastic about the artistic merit of the song :-)! It has provided so much wholesome entertainment to me, I could never say that I do not enjoy it :-D! I can see you are also going through the phase now - my friends and I used to sing the song ALL the time when we first heard it :-D!

Shilpa - LOL! We shd maybe join as members :-D!

Hey btw, there is a mistake in your blog, it should be titled, "Eeef you come today" and not "If you come today"

Grrrrrr. and I searched for Tick Tick Tick group in Orkut believing you girls.

Archana said...

Anon - I dont think any amount of eee's in the 'If' can do justice to the stylish way it is pronounced in the song ;-)!

Anon2 - thank you :-) and welcome aboard! Oh what IS "SoCal d00d via CA"? Southern California dude via California??? Tap, tap, tap!

Prabu - I did a search too and when I could not find it, I tried the next obvious phrase "If you come today" - voila, there it was :-D!

Rahul - lol! I have been bitten by that song bug again and have been singing it a lot now. Am trying to purrrrfect my pronounciations u see ;-)!

Madsies - romba busy-aa? Too bad :-(!

Anon2 - okay, now, what is swalpa :-|?Does that mean "a little"? I know maadi is sth like "do".

Prabhu - hmm, I thought I was just being helpful! But now that you say, yeah, it's surprising that it did not strike you :-P!

Archana - if it makes you happy, I read you comment and immediately watched the video again :-D! You are right - its entertainment value is priceless!!

Madsies - go for it :-))! I am sure Dr.R would have never guessed the great impact his awesome performance would have on people ;-)!

Prabhu, Saranya - post pottutein :-)!

For all those making fun of Dr.R's accent, guys it was 70's! I find it funny when some Tamils here comment on Raj's accent. The heavily "sambhar" laced accent of theirs, makes me laugh my ass off:-)
When u listen to some of the american pop singers sing, the way they bend English while singing, Raj's performance is commendable! As for looks, Raj certainly looks more handsome than, say, a Roger Moore!
